General Questions

Toterly is local, flexible, and built around the real needs of students and families in Maryland. We use reusable hard-plastic totes instead of relying only on cardboard boxes, we know the local campuses and move-in schedules, and we aim to make both move-out and move-in easier with direct pickup and return service.

For many families, Toterly helps avoid long drives home with a packed car, airline baggage fees, temporary self-storage rentals, and the hassle of moving everything twice.

Toterly proudly serves students in and around the Baltimore area and selected nearby Maryland campuses. We handle on-campus housing, approved campus locations, and many nearby off-campus apartments depending on the service.

We currently support students at:

  • Goucher College
  • Johns Hopkins University
  • Loyola University Maryland
  • MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art)
  • Morgan State University
  • Stevenson University
  • Towson University
  • UMBC
  • University of Maryland

If your school is not listed, email orders@toterly.com and ask. We may still be able to help depending on location and timing.

A Toterly tote is a sturdy, reusable hard-plastic container designed to protect your belongings better than a typical cardboard box.

Each tote measures 26" L × 19" W × 14" H, which is roughly comparable to a large airline checked suitcase.

Yes. Parents and guardians can place orders, manage the details, and pay using the secure Stripe payment link. If the parent is paying for a student, just make sure the student’s school and housing details are included on the form.

We cannot accept perishables, leaking liquids, hazardous or flammable materials, loose batteries, illegal items, or valuables that require special insurance such as cash, jewelry, passports, or irreplaceable documents.

We also follow school housing rules, so prohibited dorm items may not be accepted or returned to campus housing.

Your items are stored in a local facility, organized by order, and handled by a small local team. Totes and boxes are labeled and stacked securely for storage and return delivery.

Dorm Drop

Dorm Drop lets you ship boxes, packages, and approved items to Toterly before the semester starts. We receive and store them, then deliver everything directly to your dorm or approved housing area around move-in.

You can sign up anytime of the year. Items can be shipped up to 45 days before classes start. To make sure you have enough time to ship items to us, complete the form at least two weeks before move-in.

After you submit the Dorm Drop form, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your unique reference number. That reference number should be included on every package label.

Standard boxes or totes can be up to 61" total dimensions using length + width + height. If your box is larger than that, contact us before shipping for approval or custom pricing.

Many online retail packages are removed from the outer shipping boxes before storage. Smaller items may be combined into Toterly totes when appropriate. This saves space, reduces cardboard waste, and makes storage and delivery easier.

Yes, for qualifying orders we can pick up select items from participating local stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Micro Center when that option is offered on the form. Please submit a separate request for each store pickup.

We update your Order Status page and send email updates when shipments are received or picked up.

That button confirms all expected shipments have arrived. Once confirmed, we can finalize the invoice and enable payment when applicable.

Once we have received all your items and you have checked the "Mark All Shipments Received", you’ll receive a secure Stripe payment link. Payment must be completed before delivery scheduling is finalized.

We’ll send a delivery reminder and try to coordinate with you. If you miss your delivery window, we will reschedule delivery and make sure you get your items.

Toterly Semester & Summer

Toterly Semester & Summer is our student storage service where we drop off totes, you pack at your own pace, we pick everything up, store it locally, and return it before the next semester or when you’re ready.

Submit the form on our website and we’ll follow up to coordinate tote drop-off, pickup, and return delivery based on your school calendar and your housing details.

You can store bedding, clothes, books, dorm décor, school supplies, and many common dorm items. We also accept many approved large items such as mini-fridges, microwaves, floor mirrors, bikes, chairs, and some desks when properly prepared.

Semester and Summer storage is priced per tote or large item per month, with a 4-month minimum for standard semester or summer storage.

No problem. Many students begin with an estimate and adjust later. Because Toterly is local and active near campus during move-out, you can add totes anytime and adjust your order before pickup.

Yes. Desks must be fully disassembled before pickup. The desktop and legs should be separated so the pieces are flat and ready for transport or wrapping. We are not able to disassemble furniture during pickup.

Screws, bolts, and other hardware should be placed in a sealed bag and taped securely to the item or placed in a tote.

Yes. Many customers choose our $15 per item wrapping service for items such as TVs, monitors, microwaves, mirrors, mini-fridges, and desk components.

If you wrap your own desk, the desktop and legs should be wrapped securely. Drawers may be wrapped separately when needed. TVs and monitors can often be wrapped together with desk components when packed safely. If a monitor or TV has a stand, remove the stand first.

Yes. Mini-fridges must be clean, fully emptied, and dry before pickup, and the door should be taped or secured shut. Microwaves should be emptied, and if the glass plate remains inside, it should be wrapped for protection with the door taped closed.

Yes. Floor mirrors should have protected corners and should be fully wrapped or covered to help reduce scratches and glass damage during handling and storage.

For safe handling, totes, boxes, or wrapped item groupings should ideally remain under 50 lbs. Extremely heavy items may require special approval or additional handling.

Yes. Toterly provides one complimentary vacuum storage bag per order for a comforter or similar bulky bedding item. Leave the bag accessible during pickup and our team can vacuum seal it so it fits more easily into a tote.

If you’re unsure whether an item is acceptable or properly prepared, contact us at 1-844-771-5500. We’ll review it and let you know before pickup.

Items should be packed, broken down when required, and ready at the scheduled pickup time. If an item is not properly prepared, we may need to reschedule the pickup.
