Last Day in Chile

I was very bummed about our last day in Chile.  The time seemed to fly by, but I was certain that I’d return.  Our last day in Santiago was spent essentially figuring out what our last excursions would be.  Before returning our car, we made our way to the El Golf district to eat at Tiramisú (Calle Isidora Goyenechea 3141), a very cute pizzeria that was recommended to us by Andreas’ friend. The lunch crowd was definitely full.  Each time a pizza passed by, my mouth watered.  Our pizzas were perfect.   On a really nice sunny day, I highly recommend getting a seat outside.

Funicular for Cerro San Cristobal

We returned our car and made our was to the closest subway station to Cerro San Cristobal, the famous hill with a large statue of the Virgin Mary atop it. We had planned on going to Cerro San Cristobal since arriving to Chile, and we were constantly reminded to go since we could see it from our apartment balcony. Even though I despise heights, I was still excited to ride the funicular to the top of the mountain.

Downtown Santiago from Funicular

The funicular took up on a steep incline.  I kept wondering how on earth the wires were holding us up, but it did.  The views of downtown Santiago from the funicular were very cool.

The Andes from Cerro San Cristobal

From the top, the Andes were in perfect view.  Downtown Santiago was enveloped with haze and smog, which made taking good pictures challenging.  That didn’t stop me from trying.

The Virgin Mary Atop Cerro San Cristobal

While I’m not the most religious person, seeing the Virgin Mary atop Cerro San Cristobal was a treat.  There’s certainly something very beautiful and serene about the sculpture.  I asked her to bless our travels back to the U.S.
